For the fifth year in a row, the MDTMA will join the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of New Jersey (10th District) and members of the public on Saturday, December 19 to lay wreaths on the graves of the 635 veterans who are interred in the Rahway Cemetery.
Registration will begin at 8:00 AM in the Museum. For information on how to register and participate, contact the Museum office (732-381-0441).
The national “Wreaths Across America Day” was started twenty-nine years ago as a way to remember the fallen veterans and honor all those who have served and currently serve in the armed forces of our country. A nation-wide program, it is estimated that over 100,000 wreaths will be placed on veterans’ graves across the United States. Over 200 people joined us last year to participate in the ceremony.
The Rahway Cemetery was chosen to be the site of this major project because of the research work done by the Museum staff and interns over a period of five years (2011-2016). Each of the many rows of graves in the cemetery was carefully surveyed several times in order to be precise in finding and noting exact locations of veteran graves from all wars.
